Northwest Medicine Cup
Unglazed going into the kiln. A clay slip was poured on the inside to ensure smoothness and vitrification; a nice warm color. Outside has reds and browns with some golden ash flow. 3.75 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide. There is a small dry spot on front where it faced the flame, giving it a little warp. It withstood a prolonged firing in the anagama kiln. Fired in the anagama with three kinds of wood; starting with 40 hours of Fir, then 40 hours with Alder, and finishing with 40 hours of Maple. Towards the end of the firing we do a reduction cool down, then everything is mudded up to let the kiln slowly cool for a week or more. The Alder grows on our property as well as the Maple. We cut only dead or downed trees. The Fir is sourced locally here in the Pacific Northwest.
